Mercedes driver George Russell topped second practice at Formula 1’s Canadian Grand Prix ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris, setting up an intriguing tyre choice for qualifying. Lance Stroll suffered terminal damage to his Aston Martin early on, interrupting the session. Russell’s medium tyre lap of 1m12.123s remained on top, highlighting a potential tyre strategy dilemma for qualifying. Norris ended up just 0.028s behind Russell, questioning which tyre compound would be optimal for one-lap performance. Among other notable performances, Fernando Alonso drew applause, while Max Verstappen made a timely recovery to finish ninth.
